Preying on the nation, Maxxam Corporation
Bought Pacific Lumber as a logging operation
Up in Humboldt, trees took a tumble,
Raided pension funds, watching jobs going under

Endangered species in the redwoods have no price
Why cut our losses that our taxes paid for twice

Gypsy was a leader, came from Pasadena
Killed as a pawn in a political arena
Called for justice, to stop illegal logging
Died for a cause that will never be forgotten
Defending forests that preceded the birth of Christ
Don’t they deserve to survive

California redwood trees
Standing up to corporate greed
Like the heavens in your reach
Can’t we learn to live in peace Yeah Yeah

[silent prayer: Save - the - nation God's - Cre - a - tion]

In Headwaters Grove, there’s a major hole
Where the ecosystem’s dying by the droves
Bald eagles, left without a home
Elk River salmon, got nowhere to go now

How can we cut Mother Nature to the core
Demanding more and more . . .

California redwood trees
Rise against the force of greed
Like the heavens in your reach
Can’t we all just live in peace Please Please

What if, the public knew the truth
That land was bought by me and you
With junk bonds in the billions
Bad loans we had to pay - Hey

Hurwitz loves children, how could he be a villain
Blame it on the Board for making bad decisions
Sister Butterfly, prayed for him to listen
Saved her favorite tree, but the rest will cost millions

Can we agree to protect the remaining lands
In keeping with God’s plans . . . It’s in our hands . . .

Can’t we be like redwood trees
Rise above the force of greed
Can’t we all, unite in peace
Bringing heaven in our reach Yeah Yeah

Like the giant redwood trees
Rise above our world of greed
Bringing heaven in our reach
Can't we all just live in peace

  1. Special "Tribute to You"
    https://www.wildcalifornia.org/blog/remembering-david-nathan-gypsy-chain
Dedicated to Gypsy/David Nathan Chain and Judi Bari/Earth First

Darryl Cherney, Julia Butterfly Hill and Friends of Headwaters
    http://www.circleoflife.org/

Inspired by Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell, Family and Fans

How could we tear down ancient woods
    Something he never understood
    Gypsy died defending
    Nature's right to stay.

    He was only twenty-four
When loggers hit the forest floor
    He entered heaven's door
    By standing in the way.

Why should Jesus save the human race
And pave the way to live in perfect grace
When greed destroys more precious species
    than we can replace
Don't redwood trees deserved to be saved?

    Crippled by a bomb
    Judy Bari fought head strong
    Uniting loggers and tree lovers
    to save the Earth.

Redwoods as old as Jesus’ name
Global peace is why He came.
Your Soul is priceless in God’s eyes -
    What’s our Planet worth?

If Mary gave her Son for me and you
Why act with hate ungrateful as we do?
    Mocking grace as if Salvation
    is only for a few?
Why can’t we all embrace heaven, too?

    Let’s save the land
    And native virgin
    Forests for reparations
    Work hand in hand
    Rebuild a green
    Economy across the nation

    I'm not the smartest
    of California's
    Wealth of artists
But we can build a public bank
    with everyone
    we wanna thank

All my friends who can’t be here today
I love you more than simple notes can say
If I could save a Redwood, I would name it after you

Preserve the trees in memory of you

    Endangered forests need saving too

Let’s save them as a tribute to you.

    =================================

    Draft June 30 - July:

How could they tear down ancient woods
    Something he never understood
    Gypsy died in protest
    Standing in the way.

    He was only twenty-four
When loggers hit the forest floor
Gave his life for trees they still
    Clearcut today.

If Jesus died to save the human race
And paved the way to live in perfect grace
How much more destructive torture can
    Nature take
How can the world expect to be saved?

She was crippled by a bomb
But Judy Bari fought head strong
    Uniting loggers and tree huggers
    to save the Earth.

Redwoods as old as Jesus’ name
To save us all is why He came.
Each Soul is priceless in God’s eyes -
    What’s the Planet worth?

Mary gave her Son for me and you
Why act with hate ungrateful as we do?
Waging hell, forsaking grace as only for a few
    Can’t every species live in
    Heaven, too?

    Let’s save the land
    And native forests for reparations
    Work hand in hand
Rebuild a green economy across the nation

    Among the smartest
    California's wealth of artists
We can build a public bank
    For everyone
    we wanna thank

To all my friends who aren't with us today
I miss you more than just one song can say
If I could save one tree, I would, and name it after you
    Endangered redwoods need saving too

I’d save those trees in memory of you
Let’s save them as a tribute to you.
